{"id":1314,"date":"2007-06-08T11:22:19","date_gmt":"2007-06-08T10:22:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.splunge.co.uk\/richnilk\/?p=1314"},"modified":"2011-09-06T11:22:47","modified_gmt":"2011-09-06T10:22:47","slug":"862007-%e2%80%93-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.splunge.co.uk\/richnilk\/862007-%e2%80%93-friday\/","title":{"rendered":"8\/6\/2007 \u2013 Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A hot sunny day with clouds putting in an appearance, but not really making any impact.<\/p>\n<p>Awoke still in pain, although I did manage a good night\u2019s sleep.\u00a0 Decided I needed another day of rest, but did manage to do some washing in the morning as it was a good drying day.<\/p>\n<p>Laid a blanket under the cherry tree and took out a load of bedding to get myself comfortable.\u00a0 Found a book to read and I lay there for the best part of 3 hours until there was no more shade to be had there.<\/p>\n<p>After lunch I threw some junk in the back of the van and took it to the dump on the way to the supermarket.\u00a0 I was forced to go to the supermarket because I was out of booze, oh yes and milk and bread and eggs.\u00a0 Came home and carefully sat in my guitar chair drinking a particularly cheap bottle of wine.\u00a0 Then I came across all tired, and so went and snuggled-up underneath the sheet that was still laying underneath the cherry tree in the sun.\u00a0 It was so lovely and comfortable and warm and PAIN-FREE there that I fell asleep \u2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026.only to awake some 2 hours later.\u00a0 Fortunately I was still under wraps and so didn\u2019t suffer any sun burn to add to my woes.<\/p>\n<p>Talking of woes, I was reminded of an old hemorrhoid anecdote that I was not allowed to tell while Jenny was alive.\u00a0 Surely everyone\u2019s got a favourite hemorrhoid anecdote \u2026 no \u2026 only me eh?\u00a0 Oh well here it is:\u00a0 Jenny &amp; I went to Thailand in 2002, and on the day we were due to fly back she was suffering badly from piles.\u00a0 We got to the airport and she was in a great deal of pain and could hardly walk.\u00a0\u00a0 We were facing a 12-hour flight and she wanted me to cancel our booking on humanitarian grounds or similar, but we were already checked-in and I thought that rebooking might prove at best difficult &amp; costly.\u00a0 So, with Jenny laid-out on a quiet corner of the airport floor, I went and scoured all the shops for a suitable cream, cure, unction, whatever to try and get her through the flight.\u00a0 Of course I tried for a doctor or medical help but there wasn\u2019t any in evident and the flight was due to board in 20 mins.\u00a0 I eventually found the only thing I thought suitable \u2013 a little tin of soothing-balm I think it said \u2013 and took it back to her.\u00a0 Jenny wasn\u2019t impressed, as she recognized the stuff inside the tin as tiger balm, which I think they use in that part of Asia to revive the dead, or for sore lips, or some such similar use.\u00a0 Whatever, it had a pungent smell and even on ordinary skin it burned like Ralgex.\u00a0 Thank God she didn\u2019t try to relieve her own symptoms by using it though.\u00a0\u00a0 Instead she made it onto the plane and an uncomfortable flight.\u00a0 It was several months before I was able to look back and laugh with her about it.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Today I know how she must have felt, poor girl.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway\u00a0 back in France, I made a risotto for dinner and then have come to bed early to watch the remainder of the film I started yesterday.\u00a0 Hopefully it will get even gloomier, to cheer me up some more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A hot sunny day with clouds putting in an appearance, but not really making any impact.
