{"id":1363,"date":"2007-06-20T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2007-06-19T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.splunge.co.uk\/richnilk\/?p=1363"},"modified":"2011-09-06T12:28:39","modified_gmt":"2011-09-06T11:28:39","slug":"2062007-%e2%80%93-wednesday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.splunge.co.uk\/richnilk\/2062007-%e2%80%93-wednesday\/","title":{"rendered":"20\/6\/2007 \u2013 Wednesday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hot sunny day.\u00a0 A few high-altitude clouds about.\u00a0 Becoming very close in the late evening (the humidity not the clouds).<\/p>\n<p>A day of travel and tourism.\u00a0 Paul had to get back to Limoges to catch the plane to England.\u00a0 Originally he thought this was going to be an early start and I\u2019d offered him a lift all the way rather than the complicated train\/taxi alternative from Brive.\u00a0\u00a0 However, it transpired his plane wasn\u2019t until the afternoon, but by then I\u2019d already committed to a day of driving.<\/p>\n<p>Before we set off I had to take a petanque team photo, and of course a jumping shot.\u00a0 Well in Paul\u2019s case it\u2019s more gravity-defying than most and it\u2019s the best we could get after a few attempts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.splunge.co.uk\/richnilk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/diary20_Page_5_Image_0002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1350\" title=\"diary20_Page_5_Image_0002\" src=\"http:\/\/www.splunge.co.uk\/richnilk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/diary20_Page_5_Image_0002-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.splunge.co.uk\/richnilk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/diary20_Page_5_Image_0002-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.splunge.co.uk\/richnilk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/diary20_Page_5_Image_0002.jpg 545w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.splunge.co.uk\/richnilk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/diary20_Page_5_Image_0003.jpg\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1345\" title=\"diary20_Page_5_Image_0003\" src=\"http:\/\/www.splunge.co.uk\/richnilk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/diary20_Page_5_Image_0003-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.splunge.co.uk\/richnilk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/diary20_Page_5_Image_0003-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.splunge.co.uk\/richnilk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/diary20_Page_5_Image_0003.jpg 487w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dropped him off at Limoges airport about midday, said our <em>au-revoirs<\/em> , and then I started back.\u00a0 I thought I\u2019d take in some of the towns I wanted to visit on the way back and make some tourist stops.<\/p>\n<p>I first stopped at Uzerche for lunch.\u00a0 Had a little ride around to find a nice place to eat and settled for an unassuming little place by the river.\u00a0 They only had a <em>plat-du-jour<\/em> on (like everywhere), so I unassumingly ate my way through a 4-course meal consisting of rather too much meat for the average vegetarian.\u00a0 Walked-off my lunch with a little tour around the town \u2013 very pretty as expected \u2013 and then drove on to Tulle.<\/p>\n<p>At Tulle I parked in the only non-paying car-park I could find.\u00a0 I walked down into the town and went to the tourist offices to ask them if they\u2019ve heard of an invention called the internet in these parts.\u00a0\u00a0 They ummed &amp; ahhed a bit and suggested I try the newsagent.\u00a0 I managed to get connected there just long enough to check my emails, but it was so hot and cramped in there that I didn\u2019t want to stay longer than a 2 euro session.<\/p>\n<p>Then I repaired to a bar in the town square to take in the atmosphere.\u00a0 I always find that sitting outside with a little light refreshment on a hot day is an ideal way to introduce oneself to the pace of life in a strange town.\u00a0 It\u2019s always interesting watching the locals and the tourists and the traffic and the workmen and the world go by as you decide your next course of action.\u00a0 I noticed that people do move slowly in this town.<\/p>\n<p>So I wandered around slowly for a bit and took in some of the history, but before long it was time to get back.\u00a0 I went back via a tile superstore where I was able to get some tiles for my worktop at a reasonable price at last, so I was pleased that I\u2019d come back this way from Limoges rather than taking the motorway all the way.<\/p>\n<p>Got back home, and the 4 course lunch was still sitting heavy in my stomach so I didn\u2019t want to eat.\u00a0 By about 8 o\u2019clock though I was feeling peckish but I didn\u2019t know what to eat.\u00a0 Fortunately Madame Tronche shouted up at me at that precise moment to offer me <em>another <\/em>punnet of strawberries.\u00a0 What a bit of luck.<\/p>\n<p>Rounded off the day with a delicious bowl of freshly-picked strawberries (\u201cThey\u2019ll only spoil\u201d she said but they were perfect).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hot sunny day.\u00a0 A few high-altitude clouds about.\u00a0 Becoming very close in the late evening (the humidity not the clouds).
