22/6/2007 – Friday

Happy Birthday Lynnette.   Your  birthday weather is a little bit disappointing, grey and threatening – like a city businessman with a baseball bat.  Heavy afternoon downpours, but clearing in the early evening.  Still quite windy.

Nothing much to report today.  In fact the weather may well be the most comprehensive part of this entry.  I did some more to the kitchen worktops <stifle a yawn here>, and finished the tiling and all the fiddly little bits like the edging and the bodge hiding, so it’s all now beginning to look like a normal kitchen area.  Well rustically normal anyway.

I’ve had extensive feedback with my colour suggestions for the kitchen units and so far it’s 2 votes for leave it natural and 1 for stain it green.  If you add my vote (surely I’m allowed a vote?) then that’s 2-all.  I’ll have to wait for Ilka to come over now and give me her expert opinion on it.  I must admit that I’ve always erred on the side of au-natural in the past, that’s why I’m tempted to try something different this time.  ( Hence my choice of girlfriend haa haa).    Actually, now the off-white tiles are firmly affixed to the tops the whole area looks a lot better and I might be happy to keep it natural.  I’ll live with it for a while and see how I feel, that’s the normal way of doing things n’est pas?

Ilka and I have now stopped communicating via mobile phone – not that we’ve fallen out of course – but just that the cost was prohibitive.  So we’ve gone back to the old ways, like when dinosaurs roamed the earth and one had to get to a phone booth at an agreed time for the other to phone.  It works very well actually, ‘cos the local phone booth is only 5 minutes away from me and it gets me out of the house.  And it only costs us a joint 2 cents a minute compared to the 80 cents it was costing before.  So now we can chat about this and about that and about nothing – like lovers are meant to do – and Orange can’t touch us.  It clearly wasn’t the phone charges that bankrupted the dinosaurs!   Or maybe they were on another network.
