25/6/2007 – Monday

Wet, grey miserable day all day.  Heavy downpours.  Cold, like April.  One bit of blue turned up and I when I turned to look at it properly it disappeared.

Stayed indoors because that was the driest option, and besides I had a kitchen unit to finish.  Finished it at last.

In an idle moment I worked-out that I’d spent a total of about 250 euros on my kitchen. That’s a result isn’t it?  Despite my previous moanings about the cost of the wood I’ve managed to put together something I’m actually quite proud of for much less than I had expected (and certainly a lot less than MFI).

In another idle moment (you get idle moments round here) I noticed that the birds sitting on the telephone wires outside were making music.  Not audible music, but written music!  There are 5 wires on the pole and that makes a music stave of some kind.  When the birds sit on different wires they make a different tune if you read the music.  Now I’m not sure what key they were in, but I could have sworn that the first few birds were sitting on doh-reh-me-doh.  That’s Frere Jacques surely?  Now that’s impressive.

Although I wanted to idle around some more to see what other music they knew, I had to get on with cleaning the house.  Ilka’s coming tomorrow and I don’t want the place looking like it’s been lived in do I?
